Driver CPC

Western Training Services (WTS) in Exeter has been set up to offer swift online Driver CPC training and certification to the  haulage and passenger vehicle drivers in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.

The Driver CPC is for LGV and PCV drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK. It has been developed as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59 to improve the knowledge and skills of professional LGV and PCV drivers.

An initial qualification must be achieved by new LGV and PCV drivers along with their vocational licence to enable them to use their licence professionally.

Existing drivers who held a vocational licence prior to the September 10, 2008 (PCV) or September 10, 2009 (LGV) are exempt from the initial qualification. This is known as “acquired rights”.

All professional drivers (new and existing drivers) must complete a total of 35 hours periodic training every five years following their initial qualification to keep their Driver CPC valid.  Existing drivers must complete their periodic training by September 2013 (PCV) and September 2014 (LGV).

Periodic training is made up of varied elements, including health & safety and ADR testing.

A paper-based ADR test can take between four and six weeks before marks are returned and can therefore delay a vehicle and its driver being on the road. At WTS, it takes just 24 working hours as the testing and marking is all cost-effectively completed online. The ADR test makes up 21 hours of the required Driver CPC 35 training hours.
